IF Comp voting has started! I always try to get in at least the minimum of games played required to vote, and usually just barely make that limit (5 games).
I'm getting off to a good start this year and have already finished one game, Night Guard Morning Star by Astrid Dalmady.
It's a very quick twine game that relies pretty heavily on atmosphere. Because it's so short it's worth running through quickly, but I'm on the fence about how satisfying it is. The first 90% of the game has no real choice. In fact the single, elementary puzzle in the game is solved for you in the next scene, so there's not much to play here at all. There are multiple endings once you've gone through the primary process, but they're the result of maybe 2 choices you make at the end of the game and don't feel particularly impactful because of that. The writing is decent though and the atmosphere is nice if you like creepy, supernatural family issues type fiction. I'd definitely file this under "atmospheric" twine games, and how much you care about that will probably determine how much you like the game. What is actually happening isn't precisely articulated so there's room for speculation too. For me I thought the length was just right for what was there, but the lack of any real complexity prevents me from scoring it highly.
